Wireless Condition Monitoring in Wind Energy Applications – highly sensitive vibration & precise rotation angle sensor in one system

Vibration measurements on wind turbines are an important part of the Condition Monitoring in wind energy applications. As wired sensors cause major efforts during installation, our solution is wireless measurement system consisting of one or more nemi G+ wireless accelerometers and a nemi EdgeBase gateway.

nemi G+ is a very compact, wireless accelerometer which acts as a highly sensitive vibration and a precise rotation angle sensor. Placed at various positions on the wind turbine drive train, movements and vibrations over time are detected. The measured data is sent to a robust gateway with EdgeComputing capabilities via nemi link 2400 radio technology.

👉 Your advantage:
By combining angle of rotation with acceleration measurements, vibrations and oscillations of components like rotor blades, main gearbox, main shaft and main bearing can be analyzed in angular domain. By plotting the vibrations over the rotation angle and averaging them over long periods of time, you get very good data quality and clean spectra, even if the rpm change a lot during measurement. The measurements can then be analyzed to identify possible irregularities or anomalies and take action for maintenance or repair before serious damage or failure occurs.
